- Early summer brings the variety pack.
- Bucktails are now working very well. Fish are active and chasing lures.
- 5 to 7inch slammer crank baits are working over the weeds with lots of fish moving.
- Fast erratic twitch baits are deadly at this time.
- Top water is now working and one of the most exciting ways to catch fish.
- Mid summer is now upon us, the muskies are starting to follow the baitfish off the weed flats and onto the weed edges. There are muskies in the weeds, on the weed edges and also muskies starting to make there way into open water (suspending).
- Trolling weed edges is my go to pattern here. There are lots of hungry muskies just waiting for an easy meal; they are very aggressive at this time. The right bait at the correct depth is deadly.
- Casting deep divers along the weed lines is the most popular pattern used at this time. There is plenty of weed edges to work on Pewaukee Lake.
- Trolling the flats is an option now. The fish are scattered from the weeds to the open water. Anything goes now; trolling open water for suspending fish is a good option.
- Late summer is here. Casting the weed/weed lines will produce fish but numbers are down there. Trolling will produce but where do you troll, fish are from the weed lines to the deep water suspended.
- Night fishing is my choice at this time. The activity on the lake during the daytime hours is non-stop. Recreational boaters, sailboat regattas, jet skies and waverunners are everywhere.
- Night fishing can be tough at times, but the rewards usually make up for it.
- Casting over the weed edges is a great pattern. Bucktails and surface baits are a good choice.
- Casting crank baits on the weed lines is also an extremely effective way to put fish in the boat.
- Trolling the flats with crank baits also works at night; walleyes and muskies are taken this way.
- Trolling the deep-water breaks with larger crank baits will produce some trophy fish, something I love to do when the conditions are right.
- Trolling suspended fish at night has given up some good numbers of muskies and walleyes. Multiple fish nights are not uncommon. Find the baitfish and you’re in business.
